aaaaand... i'mback

back where i 'grew-up' and back to blog.
back as a married feminist, with a little alien on the way.
(trying to figure out why i want to know the gender of the alien, though gender-identifying a baby makes less and less sense. an infant cannot perpetuate the roles that society or culture insist upon.)

wanting to continue with a career and a graduate degree.
having a supportive partner, i am still hesitant, knowing life will change completely in three months.

and not yet ready to give up the goals that have stuck with me.
wanting to feel like an individual, but waiting to connect with something that is going to be completely dependent.

needing to write again, anyway.
bonne annee

cat's out of the bag

aw.

my fingers aren't even crossed.

naughty, amature blogger that i am, i haven't written in a bit. so here is my promise to study my lines and get some words out more often.

feminista

a favorite phrase unleashed on the overly-plucky feminist:
"i'm not a feminist, but" ....
'but' is usually followed with a sombre "i'm a humanist". which is fine too. i started with this brave turn of phrase. freshman year at university found me forcing my dance-weary self to philo/fem class for the first 8 weeks of winter term and grunting 'humanist' views at my roommate over dry, utopian readings idealizing childcare and communal living.
now i just want people to define feminism for themselves (par example: i shave my legs. now you go.) and recognize that if they are against sex discrimination, then they are feminists.
feminism encompasses sex, race, and class...and more. health issues, abuse, disease, AIDS, education. it's the question of the age. (well, that's sexual difference, but Irigaray will forgive me for not being so technical.) once it's asked, the answer will come with stunning consequences.

non-anger issues resolved.

water water every hare.
now i feel better. *sigh* i know i said i wasn't mad, but... well, thanks to tvsquad for the head's up. i remember thinking this short was particularly funny. back in the day. 1988. i am still all about the bobbypins, however.

wtf, son?

and this (http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/06/03/bush.radio.ap/index.html) came from where? what are we being distracted from this time? (insert inane hoopla about the 'official' language of this country and the national anthem while millions of citizens are screwed out of their medicare rights and forced to take on our government's red tape policies via phone...) a constitutional admendment banning anything based on sex is unconstitutional by nature. bitch please.

you know. i'm not even angry anymore. it's obvious who he's trying to please. and stability promised to me by someone so far removed from reality, humanity, and those he has been trusted to lead is laughable. the energy in this country is humming. race, class, and sex politics are not resolved.

i'll admit

i will try to post credit when due, but claim no ownership for images posted here. as i warm up my blogger fingers i will practice better image hosting.

maybe i'm crazy

i feel obligated to blog. i claim to be a writer. but, then, i couldn't even maintain a myspace. (ugh) all i've left is a quote i love that no one can read. i just want to write. meme. blog. dream. move on.
finally breaking out of the cocoon that is adolescence. a painful beautiful process. that took ten years longer than expected... but, then, the end of adolescence often emerges as a (the) midlife crisis. i prefer to have the work done by the time i'm 26. and by that, i mean the work is never done, but i will not find myself at 40 with the right car, the right home, the right yard, the right career and ready to jump. off a cliff. i will embrace change at any age and not be surprised when a socially acceptable life is not enough. but a decent life is.
does that make me crazy?
probably. (fine. i'm listening to nelly furtado's cover of gnarls barkley's 'crazy')
